OUTWORDS Archive

OUTWORDS records, preserves, and shares the stories of LGBTQ+ elders across the United States to build community and catalyze social change. Over the past eight years, OUTWORDS has recorded some 340 in-depth, on-camera, professional-quality interviews with LGBTQ+ elders in 43 states and Washington DC.

In a concerted effort to reverse the systemic erasure of minority voices within the LGBTQ+ and society at large in history and similar media projects, it devotes 60% of its new interviews to the BIPOC community and 50% to the TGI (transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex) community. its major areas of activity include recording 40-50 new interviews per year; professionally preserving and archiving all of its digital assets (recorded interviews, transcripts, and personal photos shared with it by its interviewees) to ensure they will be available for generations to come; and distributing stories via its proprietary digital platform; through social media; through a wide variety of partnerships within and beyond the LGBTQ+ community; and through paid programming for major companies such as Disney, Microsoft, Capital One, and many others.
