Colin Farrell Wins Golden Globe for ‘The Penguin’: ‘I Guess it’s Prosthetics From Here on Out’

Colin Farrell won his third Golden Globe on Sunday night for his performance in The Penguin. Farrell was named best male actor in a limited or anthology series.

The Penguin saw Farrell reprise his role as the villainous Gotham gangster, a character he first played in the 2022 film, The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves.

Farrell spent three hours a day in makeup to turn into Oswald Cobblepot. “No one to thank on this one. I did it all by myself,” Farrell joked before thanking makeup artist Michael Marino, who designed the Penguin’s look. “All it took was three hours in the chair in the morning,” Farrell continued. “I drank black coffee, listened to ’80s music, and I became a canvas for that team’s brilliance.”

Farrell visited the Golden Globe Foundation in September to discuss the importance of philanthropy and support for physical and mental health services. He talked about the launch of The Colin Farrell Foundation, which is committed to transforming the lives of individuals and families living with intellectual disability through education, awareness, advocacy, and innovative programs.

Farrell’s son James has Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes delayed development and affects movement, speech and balance. Farrell spoke about the struggle to find suitable residential care for people with intellectual disability after they turn 21.

His fellow nominee in the same category, Richard Gadd, also led an informative panel at the Golden Globe Foundation with Jessica Gunning. Gadd and Gunning spoke about the importance of mental healthcare following their performances in Baby Reindeer, which won best limited series, anthology series or television motion picture at the ceremony. Gunning won best performance by a female actor in a supporting role for her portrayal of Martha in the show.

Gadd is an ambassador for We Are Survivors, a survivor-focused voluntary sector organization that aims to create and facilitate safe spaces for male (including trans and non-binary individuals) survivors of sexual abuse, rape and sexual exploitation. The UK charity asked Gadd to be an ambassador after the actor talked about his experience of sexual assault in his live show Monkey See Monkey Do.
