Institute for Nonprofit News

The NewsMatch program is a partnership between funders, newsrooms, and resource providers: The Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) strengthens and supports 500+ news organizations in a new kind of news network: nonprofit, independent, and dedicated to public service. INN envisions a nonprofit news network that ensures all people in every community have access to trusted news. To achieve this, INN helps nonprofit newsrooms grow by:

● providing vehicles for nonprofit newsrooms to collaborate, share and help one another; ● offering direct support via fundraising, audience and leadership training, fellows, interns, implementation grants, and accessible shared services;

 ● collecting and sharing data about INN members and using these insights to innovate programs and services; and

 ● informing the public and the philanthropic community about the value and impact of nonprofit news.

INN manages the NewsMatch program and provides training resources and support to participating organizations. INN is also home to the NewsMatch program director and development team that supports the initiative. NewsMatch is supported through the Fund for Nonprofit News, an open collaborative fund at The Miami Foundation. The Foundation oversees the fiscal administration of NewsMatch funds and oversees the application and reporting process for NewsMatch.

The News Revenue Hub's mission is to help news organizations become more financially sustainable by diversifying revenue streams, primarily through reader contributions, without relying on paywalls. They aim to support journalism that infrms communities and improves lives. News Revenue Hub supports NewsMatch by providing a series of resources on digital fundraising best practices. This includes topics around audience development, newsletter engagement, and membership conversion. Additionally, NewsMatch funders are actively involved with strengthening the strategic direction of NewsMatch, identifying and engaging prospect funders, as well as amplifying the NewsMatch campaign message.

Through NewsMatch, these groups and organizations collectively advance INN’s mission of strengthening and supporting the field of nonprofit news to help ensure every community has access to reliable, trusted sources of news.
