CSULB Film & Electronic Arts Department Receives Support from The Golden Globe Foundation for the 2023-2024 Academic Year

Golden Globe Foundation

For nearly two decades the Golden Globe Foundation (formerly Hollywood Foreign Press Association) has been enriching the lives of student filmmakers during their undergraduate studies at CSULB. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the Film & Electronic Arts Department was fortunate to receive the continued support from the foundation which goes toward assisting students with the costs associated with producing their short films. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Golden Globe Foundation for their continued contributions which give student filmmakers at The Beach access to creating short films prior to graduating with their film degree. The films funded by the Golden Globe Foundation have gone on to win awards and be featured in various film festivals and competitions such as the CSU Media Arts Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and more.

The cost of an undergraduate education can be costly on its own and significantly increases for film students who encounter the additional expenses associated with producing a short film along with paying for books, tuition, and housing. Without this vital support from GGF, the on set experience for students simply wouldn’t be possible. In addition to providing funding for student productions, the Golden Globe Foundation also contributes to an endowed scholarship which is awarded each academic year to a student to help pay for tuition, books, and other educational expenses.

The first Golden Globe Foundation Dinner saw $5 million in grants handed out to 96 organizations for 2023-2024 through its philanthropic program on Jan. 5, 2024, at the Wilshire Garden Room of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. These donations support a diverse range of nonprofit organizations assisting underserved communities, universities, and colleges. Read more about the newly formed foundation and the philanthropic history of the Golden Globes in their 2024 press release with Variety Magazine.
