Journalism and Press Freedom

Freedom of the Press Foundation

The Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) protects, defends, and empowers public-interest journalism and has become an essential partner to news organizations and independent journalists around the world. FPF monitors threats to their rights in real-time and actively works with reporters to mitigate them.

FPF builds secure communications tools used at many of the world’s top news organizations. It teaches journalists and documentary filmmakers how to keep themselves and their sources safe; documents and reports on virtually every press freedom violation in the United States; and engages in public and legal advocacy on critical issues affecting journalists’ rights in the U.S. and around the world.

Since its founding in 2012, FPF has developed digital security solutions for journalists, human rights defenders, university students, documentary filmmakers, and artists in the U.S. and abroad FPF’s approach to digital security accounts for the technical, political, and social requirements unique to each person or team FPF helps.
