PBS SoCal’s Fine Cut Festival of Films is back for its 26th season, highlighting the best work from California student filmmakers. This year’s program drew over 430 submissions, with 33 finalists representing more than 50 schools across the state.
On Tuesday, September 16, the festival will host its annual awards ceremony at the Eagle Theatre, where winners in Documentary, Animation, and Narrative categories, along with the recipient of the Jack Larson Southern California Student Filmmaker Award, will be announced. The evening will feature screenings of the winning shorts and celebrate the creativity of these rising filmmakers.
Among the finalists are outstanding projects from California State University, Northridge, California Institute of the Arts, and the University of Southern California, whose films explore themes ranging from identity and culture to resilience and imagination. Their recognition in Fine Cut underscores the importance of supporting film education and opening doors for the next generation of storytellers.
The Golden Globe Foundation is proud to support these institutions and their students, celebrating their achievements on the path to shaping the future of cinema.
