from Film Independent
Earlier this week, Film Independent Presents and The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts hosted a special one-night-only Live Read of Conclave. It was a night of lies, betrayal, power plays, intrigue — and let’s be honest, lots of gossiping and some light vaping.
Edward Berger, director of Academy Award-winning All Quiet on the Western Front, and writer Peter Straughan brought their award-winning film to life with an outstanding cast, including Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), B.J. Novak (The Office), Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), Lionel Boyce (The Bear), Cooper Koch (Monsters), Josh Gad (Book of Mormon), Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult) and Eugenio Derbez (CODA), along with the film’s Golden Globe-winning screenwriter Peter Straughan as narrator. Winner of Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Critics Choice Awards, Conclave has captivated critics and audiences alike, earning 8 Oscar nominations—including Best Picture—12 BAFTA nominations, Critics Choice Award for Best Acting Ensemble, 2024 National Board of Review’s Best Ensemble award, as well as the 2025 AFI Award for Movie of the Year.
