Three short films produced by Santa Monica College students in the Golden Globe Foundation–supported Film 33: Making the Short Film class have been accepted into the prestigious LA Shorts International Film Festival, qualifying them for Oscar and BAFTA consideration.
The selected works—“Ends and Means”, “Fear and Tremble”, and “No Return”—were created in a professional filmmaking environment under the guidance of SMC faculty, including professors Salvador Carrasco and Simone Bartesaghi. These projects were developed as part of the college’s advanced production sequence, with critical support from the Golden Globe Foundation.

Each year, Film 33 enables students to write, direct, and crew original short films with hands-on mentorship and access to high-quality equipment—providing a launchpad for emerging talent from diverse backgrounds.
The LA Shorts International Film Festival, now in its 29th year, is one of the most respected short film festivals in the world, attracting thousands of industry professionals and audiences to its screenings in downtown Los Angeles.
The Golden Globe Foundation is proud to help advance the next generation of storytellers through grants to programs like SMC’s Film Production track.
