Los Angeles City College (LACC) closed out the academic year with its annual scholarship ceremony on May 20 at the LACC Student Union, where students came together to be recognized for their hard work and achievements with Scholarship Award certificates.

Mahadi Hasan Shawon was awarded a Golden Globe Foundation Fellowship in Cinema/TV for his exceptional creative work and academic performance in LACC’s renowned media programs. These fellowships, made possible by the Golden Globe Foundation, are designed to support emerging storytellers and reporters as they prepare to enter the professional world.

“From the small town of Magura, Bangladesh, I’ve always been a dreamer with a simple beginning and a big vision. Even as a young boy, I knew about the Golden Globe Awards and the Golden Globe Foundation — but I never imagined that one day, I would be studying filmmaking at a film school supported by them, and even more, receiving a fellowship from the Golden Globe Foundation itself.

For someone like me, this recognition is one of the most meaningful achievements of my life so far. Words are not enough to express my gratitude to the Golden Globe Foundation and Los Angeles City College. I am truly humbled and incredibly thankful.”

Mahadi’s story is a powerful reminder of how meaningful support and recognition can open doors for emerging voices in film. As another academic year comes to a close, the Golden Globe Foundation remains proud to champion the next generation of storytellers in Los Angeles.
