Gabriel grew up in East Los Angeles, the oldest of four in a hard-working Mexican-American family. Life wasn’t easy, and at one point, he was homeless, living out of his car, struggling to find stability while losing hope. Then his brother introduced him to ManifestWorks — and everything changed.
Through the program, Gabe gained the skills, knowledge, and industry-access that had always been out of reach. More than that, he found a community that believed in him. He started as a Production Assistant, faced challenges head-on, and proved himself with every opportunity.
He realized the work ethic and determination that had been instilled in him since childhood — combined with the skills and access provided by ManifestWorks — would open doors. Over time, he worked his way up to become an Assistant Director, getting the opportunity to work alongside Oscar-winning directors and cinematographers.
But Gabe’s story isn’t just about his success — it’s about his commitment to others. Today, he mentors newcomers at ManifestWorks, making sure they know they belong, paying forward the encouragement he once received. Significantly, he’s a monthly donor, ensuring the program that changed his life can do the same for others. As he says, “Who am I if I’m not my brother and sister’s keeper?”
