Atlantic Council

The Strategic Litigation Project of the Atlantic Council works on legal initiatives to seek redress for victims and survivors of human rights violations and other serious international crimes. The SLP’s projects address gaps in international justice through bold, innovative solutions that are co-designed and led by affected communities with the core team, many of whom are members of impacted communities themselves.

The SLP’s women-led and majority-women team includes lawyers based in or from Syria, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Mexico, China, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, and Iran, with expertise in gender justice, multilateral campaigns, combating transnational repression of dissidents, corporate accountability, and law and technology. Through its placement at the Atlantic Council, the SLP aims to bridge foreign policy and international law spaces—ensuring its voices are heard in rooms where human rights are rarely discussed and never prioritized and helping to bring justice to communities impacted by conflict and authoritarianism.

Note:  The Atlantic Council “promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the Atlantic Community’s central role in meeting global challenges. The Council provides an essential forum for navigating the dramatic economic and political changes defining the twenty-first century by informing and galvanizing its uniquely influential network of global leaders. The Atlantic Council—through the papers it publishes, the ideas it generates, the future leaders it develops, and the communities it builds—shapes policy choices and strategies to create a more free, secure, and prosperous world.”  Its Honorary Board of Directors includes notables such as James Baker, Wesley Clark, James Mattis, Leon Panetta, William Perry, Condoleezza Rice and others.
